Married couple start interiors business after home renovation project becomes an Instagram hit

A married couple whose home improvement project became a social media hit have started a new business based on their quirky tastes.

Cat and Dain Maginnis launched Wild One Interiors in September 2019 after documenting the renovation of their Cheshire home – and garnering thousands of Instagram followers.

The couple started selling household goods and soft furnishings and eventually moved into a 2,000 square foot warehouse in Talke, Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Now the six-person business has moved to new premises – more than double the size – on Longport Enterprise Park in Stoke-on-Trent.

Cat said: “We moved in and started renovating an old Victorian house and posting updates of our work on Instagram.

“We had a lot of positive feedback and that’s when we decided to make a business out of it.

“We started with just a few different products and it only grew from there.”

Today, Wild One Interiors sells a wide variety of products ranging from tableware and decorative accessories to candlesticks, faux flowers and upholstery. It sources its products from a number of different suppliers based in the UK and overseas.

Dain said: “We have a very specific type of vibe. All of our products are based on our own tastes – we don’t want to go the usual traditional route.

“Our inspiration actually comes from our company name – so there are a lot of animal prints. We also do a lot of our own designs.

“We are both very creative people and have a great support network around us.”

Dain added: “We started the business just before Covid so we didn’t know what was going to happen but it’s actually been really good for us because everyone was stuck in the house looking at the same four walls.”

Cat and Dain – who also run the Ink R Nation tattoo studio in Porthill, Newcastle-under-Lyme – are now looking to branch out into different areas, including gifts.

They also want to build relationships with real estate developers and hotel chains.

Cat said: “We always come up with different ideas, so there are a lot of things we would like to do with the company.

“But whatever we decide to do, we will always make sure to stay true to our style.”

Cecilia Cahill, Operations Manager, added: “The growth of the business has been so organic and I think it’s because Cat and Dain have created something that people love and want to replicate.

“Starting the business from home to build a team of six is really impressive. We’ve all really bought into the brand and are part of it.”
