Montcada House Renovation / Hiha Studio
- Region :
Text description provided by the architects. Renovation of a single-storey family house located between two party walls. The living room is connected to the new patio, located at the back of the plot, offering maximum privacy and an optimal light situation. The strategic approach lies in the distinctive hallway that connects the entrance and the living room through a curved shape.
While normally movement through this typology house is linear and monotonous, the presence of this curved volume generates dynamic movement, accompanying and leading through the space. Opening the doors at room height widens the field of vision and dissolves all spatial boundaries, developing a continuous space.
The composition of the facade is based on three rectangular openings. A ceramic trellis, which covers two of them, promotes privacy. The third, the main door, is covered with the same pattern to support the impression of symmetry. The materiality is based on the ceramic elements of the facade and the floor, contrasting with the neutral materiality of the varnished carpentry and the furniture.
